Abstract

Use of dynamic process modeling is becoming an essential part of any plant operational reliability and process safety studies. Now a day with the help of commercially available software we are able to simulate an integrated and interactive chemical process dynamic model. The dynamic modeling has now enabled to successfully simulate the dynamic behavior of real chemical process system and study its response to any transition in process parameter like during start-up, shutdown, and sudden upset in feed supplies or sudden feed rejections due to plant tripping. By rigorous dynamic modeling, today's process industry would definitely be able to enhance its understanding process predictions consequent to any deviation(s).

This paper is an endeavor to develop the basic understanding of the dynamic modeling of chemical process, its practical use in assessing plant operational reliability with the help of a comprehensive case study of a real dynamic system. Case study involves guidelines for development of a dynamic model, model behavioral study, results analysis and techniques to interpret useful information from the model
