Abstract

Abstract

Free-space optics (FSO) communication system is a unique and promising technology which has a capacity to meet high data rate demand and last mile connectivity.FSO technology has a potential to be used as a primary communication links by replacing RF communication systems because of their limited bandwidth and congested frequency spectrum. This technology is subject to a great interest for researchers because of several features and advantages like high bandwidth, low power consumption, low installation and setup cost, easy to install, license free spectrum and very secure communication and no issue of right of way.FSO communication links communication channel is open environment which is affected by various weather conditions like fog, rain, snow, smoke and smog. In all these weather factors fog is a prominent factor which causes severe attenuation for FSO link. In this paper different samples of  fog events have been selected to estimate optical attenuation using Kim, Kruse and Al Naboulsi model at three different wavelengths of 850nm, 1350nm, and 1550 nm.
