Abstract

Lahore is the second, largest and populous city of Pakistan. In the first decade of the millennium, living standards of the people of urban area has been raised. More vehicles have been brought to road by the people. Besides the advancements, it has caused many problems as well. Usually traffic is considered to be the only problem associated with the increase in the number of vehicles and government is also dealing with it that can be easily witnessed in Lahore. But the other side of the picture is more horrible and is not addressed by the government or public. The issue is the pollution caused by these vehicles. It includes gaseous emissions and noise. Masks are worn to avoid inhaling these harmful emissions but the other agent, noise is equally playing its role in affecting human health.

This study has been done to measure the noise levels at different points of the city and measure the level of the hypertension of the people living at these spots. Noise was measured by the noise level detector. Detailed questionnaire was got filled by the people living/staying at these locations for a considerable time. Medical science in combination with the statistical tools was used to analyze the hypertension of the respondents and study the relevance of noise pollution with the hypertension and diseases caused by it. After performing ANOVA test on hypertension with noise levels, it gives the value of sigma 0.017 and 0.012 respectively, much less than 0.05. It has been proved that the noise pollution is strongly associated with the hypertension. Prevalence of the diseases is more likely to be at noisy areas.
