Abstract

CAN Plant was relocated from Ireland to Pakistan in year 2007. The plant was originally
designed by UDHE, with Name plate capacity of 1400 MTPD. The plant started production in
year 2010 in Pakistan after relocation however due to harsh ambient conditions in summer
season plant capacity got limited to 1250MT. In 2015, Fatima team took initiative for further
load enhancement to its design capacity and successfully completed in 2016 with promising
results in production gain of 150MT/day and significant improvement in plant emissions and
working environment.
Detailed in house study including plant energy & mass balance to identify key limiting factor
was conducted. It was concluded in study that core limitations lied with high temperature of
the air circuit mainly due to the fact that plant was originally designed for 15ᵒC ambient
condition while our ambient condition varied from 40 to 50ᵒC in summer season which was
increasing granulation temperature (key controlling factor of plant load). After evaluation of
different options to debottleneck this problem, a product bulk cooler was installed in
parallel of already installed fluidized bed cooler.
This paper details the successful completion of CAN Plant Revamp Project. Paper in depth
documents REVAMP Project Strategy, Experience and Steps involved from conceptual stage
to execution Incl. designing, integration, resources allocation, safe execution in minimum
downtime, Successful Commissioning & Post commissioning Optimization.
