Abstract

Abstract

The consistent escalations of energy requirement as well as the impoverishment of fossil fuel reserves, in addition to serious threat to ecological balance have made it earnest to explore the alternative, sustainable and renewable energy sources. Biomass is such a plentiful, renewable energy source that puts fewer burdens on environment. Pakistan being an agricultural country well heeled with biomass energy sources. However the economically utilization of biomass for the well being of country in order to cope with the present energy crisis is still a challenging task. Thermo-chemical process such as fast Pyrolysis is considered an efficient technique to utilize the biomass to obtain liquid fuel bio oil.

The research is currently focused on catalytic fast Pyrolysis of lignocellulose source consist of coconut shell and banana pseudo stem. With the application of active catalysts nickel oxide and zinc oxide the decomposition reaction was increased which result in increased bio oil yield. Although the characteristics of bio oil will be study further. It concluded that use of nickel oxide and zinc oxide as catalyst could be useful for the better quality of bio oil and other chemicals.
