Fossil fuel reserves are depleting very fast and there is a growing need to develop processes for alternative fuels. In this paper parametric investigation for intermediate pyrolysis in a double screw type reactor with external heating source is presented. Steady state investigation of the pyrolysis reactor was done to investigate two key parameters that directly affect the yield of the pyrolysis oil. The parameters are the temperature and residence time for biomass in the active length of the reactor. After steady state testing, different parameters like feed rate, residence time, temperature, type and nature of the biomass was also investigated to access the pyrolysis yield.
