Abstract
Energy issues of Pakistan in specific and the whole world in general are existent for many years now. However presently, new and better approaches and techniques for sustainable development are being implemented on global level to solve these issues. In addition to gradual shift from carbon intensive fossil fuels to renewable for ensuring energy and environment security, improvements in energy efficiency is considered as foremost cost effective approach.Worldwide best practices and operational frameworks have converged to comprehensive energy management systems. These continuous improvement techniques have achieved goals of economic benefits and high productivity. In Pakistan, to attain a solid economic growth with least energy intensity, each sector should contribute in its best capacity. Industries who accounts for major consumption of energy resources have responsibility to implement energy efficiency culture starting down from process floor up to entire supply chain. In the included case study of Food industry, energy audit method is deployed for analysis of major process areas. Areas of potential savings are identified and feasibility of multiple energy saving projects is prepared.Based on management decisions, various projects and strategies are implemented. Outcomes in the form of technical, financial and environmental benefits are monitored. Projects with successful results are retained and are standardized for the operational environment of the industrial facility. These energy conservation initiatives are considered to be basis of energy management system in the organization.
