Abstract

Major portion of power is utilized in heating and cooling applications for attaining the comfortable conditions. A system of low cost cooling will have a high impact in minimizing the usage of electricity in the summer that in turn benefits the society in a suitable manner. The purpose of the study is to develop a triple effect vapor absorption chiller using lithium bromide and water as working fluids, that could be utilized for the air conditioning air during summer. The absorption technology has an advantage of low power consumption over the compression technology, further it has no impact on depleting ozone layer and increasing the global warming. The paper discusses the major challenges for the use of triple effect vapor absorption chillers in the cooling systems. Low coefficient of performance, large space requirement, slow starting of the system and non compact structure are the major concerns. More research and study is suggested on the topic to increase the effectiveness, technical maturity and usability of the system.
