Abstract
Fire is the main instrument for the man when under control, but can be very harmful when out of control. Cotton catches fire easily because of its organic nature. Therefore importance of flame retardants are increasing day by day due to more awareness and increasingly strict regulations health and safety. For this issue, flame retardants are overcome developed for centuries. N methyloldimethylphosphonopropionamide (MDPA), which is commercially known as Pyrovatex CP is the most widely used flame retardant. But formaldehyde based enhancers such as trimethylol melamine required to Pyrovatex for best results therefore lead to significantly higher levels of formaldehyde. Unfortunately, a high level of formaldehyde is toxic, irritating and confirmed cancer (cancer-causing) to humans. However, in this research citric acid is used as a cross-linkers instead of formaldehyde melamine. Citric acid combined with MDPA exhibited better fire retardancy with a low amount of MDPA, easy care performance and antimicrobial performance.
