Abstract

The research work addresses the simultaneous analysis and adsorption of basic Rhodamine-B (RB) and acidic Congo Red (CR) dye from a binary mixture onto a commercial multi-walled carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT’s).Various Process parameters like solution pH, initial concentration of dyes, adsorbent dose and temperature were studied through batch experiments. The maximum uptake of CR and RB as a single dye solution system was found to be 85mg/g and 68mg/g at an optimum dose of MWCNT;s respectively. Experimental runs with different initial concentrations of dyes showed the synergistic effect of Congo red for the adsorption of Rhodamine-B. Different isotherm models i.e. Langmuir, Freundlich, extended Freundlich and empirical models were tested to correlate the experimental data.  The temperature dependent adsorption tests revealed that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. The research work indicated that the MWCNT’s could successfully be applied to eradicate the dyes from industrial wastewaters.
