Kashmir has been a land of rich culture and great civilization over thecenturies. Different religions and languages flourished in this land. Islamspread in this area in fourth century A.H. through the effects of saints andscholars. Most of the scholar and saints spread this message in Persianlanguage. During the later period the rules of Kashmir also patronizedPersian language literature and culture. Persian remained the officiallanguage of Kashmir for three centuries.
