The Importance and Role of the Eastern Territories of the Ancient Persian Empire
Abstract
In the atlas today Tajikistan is in the North east of Iran. It is made by themerger of old cities of Baktaryana(Bactra) and Soghtiana(Sighed). The areaswere two independent states under the Achaemenian Empire. The names oftheir two states have been mentioned in the inscriptions of Daryush period. Theother six states mentioned in these inscriptions are Hearken, Partava,Marghowara (Marv), Kharyva(chive) and Darnagyana which were all knownPersian cities.There was no land on the earth called Tajikistan, though the word Tajik wascoined since long but it was first used by Soviet union of Russia when theynamed their occupied state as Tajikistan. Russian named it in line withTurkistan. This article brings to light the lands like Samarkand, Bukhara andTarmaz which are situated in the North of Afghanistan and were once part ofTajikistan.Keywords: Tajikistan, Achaemenid era, Ancient dynasties, Fars
