Co-Pyrolysis of Organic Solid Waste in Fixed Bed Reactor

Abstract


Solid waste is the cheapest and abundantly available renewable source of energy. The most common method of waste disposal as landfilling and incineration causes land pollution and air pollution. Pyrolysis of waste material yields bio-fuels such as solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and minimizes the air pollution. In this study Co-pyrolysis of the organic solid waste is the main focus emphasizing the effect of important variables on the bio-oil obtained from wood waste and paper cup waste. Temperature was found as the most significant parameter, the optimum temperature range was found to be 400oC – 500oC. Particle size in range of 10 to 20 mm was found to have insignificant effect on bio-oil yield. The bio-oil obtained was found to be in comparison with the furnace oil and could be used as alternate fuel.
