The efficacy of some new insecticides against the vectors of viruse of potato

Abstract


Efficacy of new insecticides against vectors of potato disease such as Potato leafroll virus (PLRV) potato virus X (PVX) and potato virus Y (PVY) an experiment was conducted at Agriculture Research Institute, Tarnab Peshawar during 2008. Eight different insecticides were applied against the sucking insect pests of potato. All the insecticides showed above 80% mortality against the sucking pests of potato. i.e. Aphids, Jassids and White flies. Talent 40 SC and Tender 10 EC cause the highest 97.9% mortality in Aphids while the lowest was caused by Confidor 20SL. The efficacy of Tender 10EC against Jassids was higher than other insecticide that was about 85.9%. In case of white flies the highest mortality was caused by Buster 20SP, that was about 86.9 percent and the lowest mortality was caused by Crown 200SL which was 82.9%. Tender 10Ec can be effectively used against aphids and Jassids while Buster can be used for controlling white flies.
