Associate Professor
Dr. Mahmood-ul-Hassan

Mahmood-ul-Hassan did MSc (Physics) from Government College Jhang, in 2001 and MPhil (Solid State Physics) from Centre for Solid State Physics (CSSP), University of the Punjab, Lahore, in 2005. He worked for two years as Research Assistant in X-ray diffraction laboratory, CSSP, Lahore. In 2007, he was appointed as Lecturer in the Department of Physics, University of the Punjab, Lahore. He did PhD from Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria, in 2011, under HEC University Faculty Development Program. During his PhD, he investigated epitaxial ferromagnetic GeMnTe thin films by extensive applications of Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), Reflection High Energy Electron Diffraction (RHEED), X-ray diffraction (XRD), SQUID magnetometer and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). His research work is published in various well-reputed journals like, Physical Review Letters, Applied Physics Letters, Crystal Growth and Design, Journal of Alloys and Compounds etc.
He rejoined Department of Physics in 2011. He has established “Materials Growth and Simulation Laboratory” for low cost fabrication of diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) using Sol-Gel and Solid State Reaction techniques. Moreover, he is also engaged in studying magnetic semiconducting alloys using Wein2K software. He has supervised 18 MPhil and 2 MSc theses. Currently, he is supervising several MPhil and PhD students, and their research work is focused to explore bulk and thin film materials for magnetic semiconducting, optoelectronic, thermoelectric and energy storage device applications.
