Assistant Professor
Dr. Effat Alvi

I am a teacher (assistant professor) and teacher educator at the Department of Educational Research and Evaluation, IER. I completed my PhD in Educational Psychology from The University of Queensland, Australia. My research activities focus on self-regulated learning, classroom instructional practices, design of effective teaching learning environments, teacher education and professional development of educators. I strongly believe in bridging the theory-practice gap in the field of education in general, and teacher education in particular, by addressing the issues and relationships in diverse teaching-learning contexts. I believe that teachers' beliefs and practices are shaped by their experiences, cultures and contexts; and that, it is critical to examine and build on these diverse experiences by employing interpretive and emancipatory research approaches. Consistently, my research work is mainly informed by interpretive paradigm. I have worked with a range of qualitative research methods including participant observations, in-depth and semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions and document analysis. My teaching experience spans undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the areas of educational psychology, educational assessment and evaluation, qualitative research practice, methods of teaching and program evaluation and teacher appraisal.
