Department of Metallurgy & Materials Engineering

The practice of materials science and engineering combines fundamental science with the most advanced technologies available today in order to develop and characterize new materials and material systems that will lead technological development for the future. The educational goals of the program are to provide a graduate curriculum, which will equip the graduates with, hands on experience in modern labs to meet the challenges of the future. The degree will provide the students with the following essential elements:

  1. An understanding of the fundamental properties and structure of materials and how they may be tailored for a specific end use.
  2. The skills to design and engineer a wide variety of materials including alloys, composites, ceramics and electronic materials for the next generation of products.
  3. The skills to design complex material systems, processing and manufacturing routes for use in advanced technology applications.
  4. The skills to work as a specialist on multidisciplinary design teams in an industrial setting and select materials based on quality and reliability.

Scope of B.Sc. (Engg.) degree in Metallurgy & Materials Engineering would increase in Pakistan and more and more employment opportunities would be available in universities, research organizations and industry. The graduates of Metallurgy and Materials Science/Engineering have been working in most of the government and non-government organizations in Pakistan and abroad. Department has state of the art laboratories and most modern library. Department also offers M.Sc. (Engg.) Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and Ph.D. (Engg.) Metallurgy and Materials Engineering programmes.

Vision
Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (DMME) will be a leading and dynamic contributor of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering professionals who will be able to solve the challenging problems in industry and academia. They will contribute for the holistic development of society by learning and applying modern engineering techniques.
Mission
The DMME has 3-fold educational mission:
1.
The teaching mission is to deliver high quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering discipline.
2.
The research mission is to contribute in knowledge advancement in the Metallurgy and Materials Engineering to strengthen and support industry and academia.
3.
The service mission is to produce ethically groomed and professionally sound individuals who can work for the betterment of community and human being at large.

Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, University of the Punjab, is committed to provide efficient and cost-effective education/training in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering for industrial and services sectors.
We are dedicated to provide trained professionals who shall be instrumental in a continual quality improvement in industrial and services sectors of Pakistan.
We shall achieve our aims and goals by fulfilling our quality objectives, training of our faculty members and assuring a continual quality improvement in our working system."
Metallurgy and Materials Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
The graduates of the B.Sc. (Engg.) Metallurgy and Materials Engineering program of DMME, University of the Punjab, Lahore are expected to be characterized by the following qualities after three to five years of their graduation:
PEO 1: Able to utilize their knowledge and skills to solve the challenging problems in industry and academia.
PEO 2: Able to enhance their professional and personal development through learning modern engineering techniques and their application in practice.
PEO 3: Capable of contributing positively in the society through strong ethical values, communication skills and leadership.
