M.Phil in Special Education (Regular)

Realizing the importance of education for children with disabilities, Department of Special Education was established in January 1990 as a federal government project. This was a great milestone in the history of the University, as Department of Special Education was the pioneer post-graduate seat of learning in the field of special education in Punjab where training of special education teachers and professionals was being offered. The Department is located at Quaid-e-Azam Campus, University of the Punjab, Lahore. The Department caters for the educational needs of special students by providing them qualified teachers and consultants having Master's, M. Phil and Ph.D. degrees in Special Education. To date, 20 Ph.D’s, 27 M.Phil and more than 1504 Master degrees have been awarded by the Department of Special Education. The department functions as an independent academic unit in the Faculty of Education, University of the Punjab, Lahore.

Admission Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for Admission in M.Phil and Ph.D. Programs in Special Education

M.Phil

M.A. Special Education or M.Ed. with B.Ed in Special Education or BS/B.Ed Four Years in Special Education or its equivalent in the relevant subject from a recognized University (16 years of education, 130 credit hours) as per HEC and PU rules

No 3rd. division in the educational career.

Ph.D.

The minimum requirement for admission to Ph.D. program is M.A. Special Education or M.Ed. with B.Ed in Special Education or BS/B.Ed Four Years in Special Education or M.Phil in Special Education or its equivalent in the relevant subject from a recognized University. All above applicants are eligible to apply in Ph.D. in Special Education as DDPC decision.

Testing Requirement

All applicants to M.Phil and Ph.D programs in Special Education are required to pass the admission test.

Two Entry Tests will be conducted as per Date, Time and Venue given in the Advertisement by the departments:

Entry Test-1
Entry Test for candidates holding BS 4 years or its equivalent degrees.
For M.Phil passing marks are 50%
For PhD passing marks are 70%
However, separate applications for online admission are required for MS/M.Phil and PhD program.

Entry Test-II
Entry Test for candidates holding M.S/M.Phil or its equivalent degrees
For Ph.D passing marks are 70%

Merit Lists of Ph.D will be made separatelyas per following criteria:

For BS or equivalent degree holders.

ii.

For MS, M.Phil or equivalent degree holders.

Note

•

The students aspiring for test must bring the hard copy of application, bank draft, photocopies/ original documents while at the time of test.

•

The test results will be announced later after verification of educational testimonials and bank draft along with other pre-requisites subject to admission policies of Punjab University.
