Abstract

Multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have been modified to enhanced their surface properties to use it in environmental remediation. MWCNTs were loaded with different compositions of aluminium and manganese oxide by wet impregnation method. Several characterization techniques have been applied to explore surface texture (SEM), thermal stability (TGA), porosity (BET), mineralogy (XRD) and functional groups (FTIR & RAMAN) in the modified nanotubes. Analysis of SEM micrographs showed the successful doping of metal oxides over CNTs surface. The higher percentage of manganese oxide in the mixture of metallic oxides imparts more thermal stability. The porosity was adversely affected by impregnation of metals over carbon nanotube substrate. X-ray diffractograms confirms the presence of different phases in the carbon nanotubes.
