Abstract
This research work aims to produce corrosion resistant graphene oxide (GO) coatings on copper metal by electrophoretic deposition (EPD). Improved Hummers’ method was used to produce two types of GO from two different precursor graphites (powder and flake). GO coating was deposited on copper metal from GO/water suspension by EPD process in which copper was made anode. EPD parameters such as voltage, time, surface roughness and temperature were investigated to determine their role on the corrosion behavior of the GO coatings and to find best parameter for deposition of GO coatings. Coating morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was carried to confirm the reduction of GO coatings. Corrosion resistance of GO-coated copper samples was studied in 3.5% NaCl solution by Tafel analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
