Abstract

Environmental pollution is a major concern now a days and water pollution is an important factor of pollution. Industries are playing vital role in this regards while waste water from flour mill containing various pollutants are commonly discharge directly to agricultural land and it has severe  impact on the crops. To eliminate this problem and investigation was carried out after the sampling of waste water from Faisalabad flour mill. Waste water from flour mill was characterized and analyzed. Analysis shows that the waste water contains few parameters which were within the allowable limit under Government of Pakistan but few like Total Suspended Salts, Turbidity and chemical oxygen demand was out of the allowable limit. Various chemicals(Ferric chloride and Alum) and different physical procedures  was used for mitigation of pollution from waste water and experimental results shows that combination of pre-settling, coagulation and sand filter could remove the main pollutants like turbidity up-to 98% and TSS up-to 80% and all other parameters falls in allowable limit. This water can be recycled and we can save not only the fresh water but also the pumping cost and environment which is our main concern. This project has potential to address the problem of environment.
