Abstract
The polyethylene pipelines which is used for distribution of gas to the consumers. The service lines of the consumers on polyethylene network consist of Polyethylene linepipe and Mild steel linepipe. The Mild steel portion is anodeless and remains buried in the soil. However, because of the moisture, salt like contents and other atmospheric factors. This anodeless pipeline undergoes severe corrosion issues which create pits and holes in the linepipe surface which makes it useless and lead to huge loss of gas and replacement cost. Therefore, a method for corrosion mitigation should be investigated. In this study, different coatings will be applied and tested experimentally. Four types of different coatings namely hot-dip galvanization, fusion bonded epoxy, zinc electro plating and aluminum will be coated on the samples prepared from actual linepipe being used for making anodeless pipeline. Experimental results and analysis will be carried out for confirming the best coating which will diminish corrosion of anodeless pipe. Fusion bonded epoxy or hot-dip galvanized may comply with the anodeless gas network and shall prove the best coating that may reduce corrosion and gas losses.
