Glimpse of Qasida Writing in Akbar and Jahngir Era

Abstract


The word Qasidais derived from the Arabic word “Qasd”, which literallymeans to intend. It is as if the poet intends to express his views on aparticular subject ۔couplet is a form of classical Persian poetry that is usually15 to 70 and sometimes up to 80 verses. The subject or themes of theqasida’s are praising kings and nobles, the greeting of celebrations, thedescription of nature….etc. After the 10th century Iranians developed theQasida writing. Rudki wrote the first Persian qasida. In 1526 Zaheer ud DinBabur defeated Ibrahim Lodhi in battle of Panipat and established Mughaldynasty in Subcontinent. The third king OF Mughal’s Jalal ud din Akbarwas the son of king Humayon. During Mughal era a lot of Iranian poetsmigrated to India. Akbar and Jahangir loved poetry, during their time periodthe Persian poets wrote a lot of poems to praise Mughal kings.
