An Introduction and Analysis of Four Manuscripts of the Diwan e Bedil preserved in the Main Library of the University of the Punjab
Abstract
Mirza Abdul Qadir Bedil is one of the prominent poets in the 11th (A.H) in thesub continent. He was born in 1054 (A.H)/1644 (A.D) in Patna in the reign ofAurangzeb Alamgir, the Mughal Emperor, and died in the month of Safar 1133(A.H)/1720(A.D) in Dehli, India. He has produced a number of works inPersian prose and poetry. His all works including letters are preserved in theshape of manuscripts in different personal and public libraries in all over theWorld, particularly, in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikstan and Iran.University of the Punjab, one of the oldest and largest University in the SouthAsia, was established in 1882 in Lahore. Its central library is one of the richestlibrary in the region. In this library, in addition to published books, so manycollections of manuscripts in Oriental languages are preserved. A number ofmanuscripts of works of Bedil are also part of the collections of the manuscriptsin the library.
