A Comparative Analysis of Two Poetic Translations of Rubaaiyaat-e-Omar Khayyam

Abstract


Omar Khayyam (1048-1131 A.D.) is one of the most renowned Persian poets ofall times. No doubt that he is the most famous name in the history of the PersianRUBAAI. His RUBAAIYAT have been making him live since last nine centuries, andhave been translated in Urdu several times. This article is a short review on two poetictranslations of Rubaaiyaat-e- Omar Khayyam, namely ''Maikhaana-e- Khayyam'' and''Moqaam-e- Khayyam'' translated by Agha Shaair Qazalbash and Abdur Rahman Tariqrespectively. Translation is itself an art. Although these translations have some specialcharacteristics but in this article it has been tried to sort out whether these translationsfulfill the qualities of a good translation or not.Key words: Persian Poetry, Omar Khayyam, Urdu Translations, Maikhaana-e-Khayyam, Moqaam-e- Khayyam
