QUALITY ASSESSMENT AND WASHABILITY STUDY OF AZAD KASHMIR (PAKISTAN) COAL RESERVES
Abstract
Coal samples from the Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) coal mines situated in the Pakistan-India border area, were collected and analyzed for proximate composition, sulfur analysis and washability characteristics. The analytical indicate that AJK coals usually have a moderate to high sulfur content 2.5-5.50 wt %. The pyritic sulfur accounts for 0.41 to 53.63 % of total sulfur content, depending on the sample source. The gross calorific value range from 4827 to 12004 Btu / Ib and indicate that selected coal samples belongs to lignite A to high volatile bituminous C (hvCb) category. The coal washability data and degree of washing (N) for variety of samples revealed that AJK coal mines can be classified as moderate to difficult to clean.
