Media ethics: A study of prime time news bulletins of leading Pakistani news channels
Abstract
This study examines the violation of media ethics through primetime news bulletins in leading Pakistani news channels. Theobjective of this study is to examine the role of prime time newsbulletins in which they promote sensationalism in society, influencethe people and set their perception on certain issues and to discusswhether they follow media ethics or not. The social responsibilitytheory is used, the methodology is a survey method and aquestionnaire is used as a tool for data collection. The sampledrawn for the study is a 100 which comprises of youth. The resultsof the study suggest that most of the people agree that newsbulletins over-emphasize specific issues to create hype and promotesensationalism in society. Moreover the study justifies that primetime news bulletins of Pakistani channels promote sensationalismthat leads towards the violation of media ethics.
