DR. RIFFAT RASHID LIBRARY
The library of the Department of Social Work, University of the Punjab, Lahore is the one of the biggest libraries of Social Work Departments in Pakistan. It consists of more than 14000 books, in addition to periodicals and professional journals. More books are being added annually. It is a rich source of knowledge on Social Work education and provides guidance for skill enhancement for professional Workers. It also broadens the vision of students towards Social Welfare and Social Development with a sound knowledge background of Social Work and other Social Sciences. Books are issued to them returned/re-issued after seven days. English and Urdu news papers are provided to the students to update their information about Socio-Political Scenario as well as Social Problems of the country. The students avail the library facility free of cost.

COMPUTER LAB
A Computer Lab has been established in the Department. The knowledge on Statistics and Computer Application is imparted to the students of M. Sc. Part-I and they avail the opportunity of “learning by doing”. However, this facility becomes more significant for them when they work on their assignments related to their Research Practicum. The Internet facility is also being extended to them and upgradation of the Computer Lab is under process. Its upgradation will enhance and enrich the research skills of students of the Department.

EXPOSURE/EXCURSION VISITS
Students of the Department are provided opportunities of exposure/excursion visits which are arranged to make them acquainted with Pakistani culture, historical places and environment that is also a source of enjoyment for them. Simultaneously, during their visits they also seek knowledge about the Government Organizations, National and International Non Government Organizations. These visits are supervised by the faculty members.

SPORTS & EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students of the Department are encouraged to take part actively in the sports/extra curricular activities organized by the Department. Besides this, they also represent the Department in different sports and extra curricular activities organized by the University of the Punjab. “Sports Gala” is yearly celebrated by the students with interest and enthusiasm. This festivity provides opportunities of physical exercise as well as psychological emancipation to them. Programs of reception to new entrants and Farewell to the outgoing sessions in the Department provide opportunities to the students to demonstrate the literary abilities and develop artistic sense. Besides this, they also represent in different programmes of Radio and T.V during their academic sessions.

COMMON ROOM FOR GIRLS
A separate common room for girls has been established where they spend their leisure time and perform prayers also.

PUNJAB UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
The students of the Department of Social Work also have an access to the Punjab University Library. They become regular member of the Library and the books on different courses of Social Work as well as on other disciplines are issued to them. The Library has the collection of more than 500,000 books/journals. Punjab University Library is subscribing sixty two foreign research journals and 250 local journals, in addition to twenty newspapers including two foreign newspapers. In its website (www.pulibrary.edu.pk) more than 22,000 online free full text research journals and 45,000 e-books are also available for its users. It has a big renovated Computer/Internet Lab of about 150 computers and students can also use the Internet facility freely. It has also Reference, Oriental and Manuscript Section. It has preserved 25,000 manuscripts. Multimedia and Microfilming/I.T. Section, Serials/Periodicals Section, Persian Section, UN and Government Publication are also available for its users. It is located near the Jamia Masjid of the Quaid-e-Azam Campus, University of the Punjab, Lahore.

HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION
The University of the Punjab provides hostel accommodation for a fairly large number of desirous students. Placement in University Hostels is arranged on a priority basis by the Chairman of the Department. The hostel residents enjoy the facilities of dining rooms, TV Lounges, reading rooms, telephone, cafeteria, swimming pool, playgrounds and gymnasium etc.

HEALTH FACILITIES
Hostlized students avail the facilities of medical checkup and treatment from the University Health Centre, where Medical Officers, Senior Physicians, Dentist, Physiotherapist, Eye Specialist and Skin Specialists are rendering their services under the leadership of Chief Medical Officer. In case of acute illness the hostilities are referred for their medical examinations etc to well reputed Labs. They are also re-imbursed the amount spent on their treatment. A Professional Social Worker is serving at Health Centre in the capacity of a Medical Social Officer (MSO).

FINANCIAL AID
The University of the Punjab awards the merit scholarships, in addition to this, scholarships to the deserving students are also awarded. Amount allocated in this regard is reviewed from time to time.

TRANSPORTATION
Punjab University is providing transport facility to its students. University also provide shuttlecock service within the premises of Quaid-e-Azam Campus. It also plys on different routes of Lahore City and extended to the students and employees of Punjab University residing in some rural/adjscent areas of Lahore.
